Collapsing on Tran Phu Hai!
I just drove by the New Lotte construction site nearby (a hotel with finish work underway), but next to it is the mini shopping center, far from complete and in a bit of trouble. A few nights ago, while pouring the concrete for the second floor, everything went to hell. The whole floor collapsed, breaking columns and twisting rebar. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries, but there is a serious problem.
The first thought of the supervisor was to hide the mess from public view, so shoddy blue tarps mask the shame (but even that masking is half-assed, as the photos here reveal). The broken columns and bent steel remainins visible.
Note the proud sign, declaring the reliability of the construction company and the "safety first" sign. That same banner was attached to the long arm of the construction crane and floated in the rush of wind as the tower leaned and fell, arm extended over the highway, blocking traffic.
Not so sure I will be patronizing the market when it opens.
