3 am. 34 Celsius and uncomfortably humid...
I lie on my bed thinking and the monotonous background of A/Cs compressors can be heard through the small open window of my hotel room. The habitual brouhaha of the hordes of young backpackers visiting the city can't be heard tonight or any other nights; the touristic season never came this year. The drinking fools are silent! The xe om are sleeping. No one's getting mugged...Nha Trang is dead! Keeping thinking thinking thinking....
Droplets of sweat are pouring out of my skin in this suffocating heat. Something is bothering me but I am too slow to realised, and too late to avert, the kiss of a mosquito aiming for my foot veins; the ceiling fan of my room not strong enough to deviate this little kamikaze of his task. Smack! Only gazillions more to kill. It seems that the little terror was already pumping my blood for a while, the heart shape blood spot on the top of my foot that marks my killing is surprisingly large, the diameter of a 10 cents coin. Looking at the heart shape blood stain, my wandering mind suddenly focus on the fact that I ''forgot'', again, to send flowers to my girlfriend on Women's Day...
She live in Saigon. I miss her terribly. Keeping forgetting so trivial things like flower bouquet on Women's Day or chocolate on Valentine's Day , for a Vietnamese woman, it is likely to get me in trouble. See, that's the strange observation I have: doing like society dictate you to do and there should be a reward of eternal love the time of a ''romantic'' day. Don't do it and suddenly there will be lingering doubt about your love the rest of the year.
I love my girlfriend, she's bright, smiling, sexy as hell and she likes me like I am for now. I love her, I really do but what should I do if she hold me a grudge about unimportant matters to me...I always though my love could be sustained with friendship, sex and water; not chocolate and flowers. Am I stupid? I think so...
Smack, smack...missed it. Stop buzzing around my head mister mosquito...
I keep forgetting, these are female mosquitoes who bites.
Oh, if she could only be here! Talking, kissing, caressing and laughing! I am certain that her body next to mine would exacerbate the inconfort of the heat but skin to skin and sweat to sweat seems infinitely better than the biting kisses of mosquitoes alone in our respective beds...
Misses you terribly in Nha Trang.
Work like you don't need the money. Love like you've never been hurt. Dance like nobody's watching.
